Responsibilities
Guided by department objectives and priorities, works closely with China offices to develop and sustain loyal client base for increased work, revenues, and profitability. Creates and leads implementation of strategic business development plans. Anticipates, and identifies opportunities for promoting and cross selling. Conducts research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships, expand the client base, and increase external and internal visibility. Provides thought leadership and executes on targeted marketing methods including social media strategies, CLE seminars, organizational affiliations, and initiatives. Develops customized pitches/RFPs, presentations, and marketing materials. Ensures meticulous execution of all projects and work, with data and content consistently accurate and well presented. Attains synergies for all marketing programs through effective collaboration. Ensures client service and satisfaction are attained in all areas of the position.
Essential Functions
Client Service 1. Consistently promote and model the Firmâs Client Service Principles in leadership, teamwork, work product, and personal interaction. 2. Promote client service throughout department; ensure client service standards are set and achieved by team; provide coaching and mentoring to staff to ensure client service is accomplished individually and through teamwork.
Develop Marketing Plans 1. Develop concise and actionable business development and marketing plans for China offices, with underlying budget recommendations, aligning strategies with the firmâs marketing and business development goals. Coordinate closely with China marketing and firmwide marketing team. Consistently demonstrate the value that Marketing Department resources can bring to bear in meeting the firmâs financial and practice goals. 2. Advise office leaders on a broad range of business development and marketing strategies, demonstrating depth of expertise and understanding relevant to the firmâs China practice. Encourage office and practice area collaboration within a holistic China strategy aligned with firm objectives. Independently develop ideas and concepts to influence business development strategies. 3. Keep abreast of developments in the law for China practice areas and relevant industries that could result in expanded or new client opportunities, etc. Develop proactive responses to advance business development. 4. Collaborate with the Client Relations Group and practice group leaders to establish a client targeting and relationship management strategy.
Deploy Marketing Initiatives 1. Implement business development and marketing plans for China offices and practice groups, ensuring that the implementation is effectively managed, appropriately budgeted, and communicated. 2. Produce and maintain creative, bi-lingual marketing materials for China, including practice group descriptions, bios, and content for the website. Writing projects include customized content for pitches and RFPs. 3. Conduct competitive intelligence and research of prospective targets, industries, markets, and conflicts via firmwide resources. Ensure existing client relationships are fully leveraged where possible. 4. Proactively participate in key industry networks, identifying partnership opportunities to enhance the position of the firm or practice groups in the marketplace. 5. Participate in completing timely submissions to directories and ranking authorities, ensure rankings in preferred publications, such as Chambers & Partners, are maximized.
Implement Programs 1. Collaborate closely with China offices, practice groups, and Marketing to produce client development seminars. Take seminars from concept through all stages of development and implementation, from targeting attendance participation to leading action-oriented follow-up. 2. Collaborate closely with China offices, practice groups, and Marketing to identify speaking and sponsorship opportunities; target appropriate membership opportunities, etc.; create visibility; and advance business development goals. 3. Assist offices, practice groups, and individual partners to prepare for client pitches; track results of pitches and prepare responsive reports and analyses incorporating strategies for increasing effectiveness.
Collaborate with Marketing Managers and Staff 1. Identify cross-selling opportunities through collecting and proactively sharing information with other business development managers and the Marketing team. 2. Ensure strong intra-departmental communication, client service, and seamless deployment of marketing programs, collaborating closely with managers and staff in all areas of Marketing. 3. Develop supportive relationships with offices where practice group attorneys are located, and ensure that business development and marketing support is collaboratively provided.
Team Management 1. Ensure Firm policies and practices are followed within function; promote consistency and fairness, maintain open door policy and promote open dialog. Ensure staff effectively meet client service objectives. Provide supportive coaching; set achievable, challenging team goals; develop skills of team members to ensure achievement of client service priorities. 2. Prepare timely, substantive, and strategically aligned performance evaluations. Identify and timely address employee relations and performance concerns within team; collaborate with Human Resources and management to support effective and appropriate resolution.
Confidentiality Ensure compliance with the firmâs Confidentiality Policy, including safeguarding confidential and personal information, and reporting any suspected breach appropriately and immediately.
Safety Practices Adhere to the firmâs General Safety Practices and any unique safety practices for department and building.

Qualifications
Education and Experience 1. Bachelorâs degree in a related field required, MBA preferred. 2. At least seven years of relevant experience in law firm and/or professional services marketing. 3. Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin and English required. Additional fluency in Cantonese a plus. 4. Strong knowledge base to support key practice areas, including China capital markets, cross-border M&A, private equity and venture capital, China regulatory and direct investment matters, technology transactions, intellectual property licensing, litigation, outsourcing, and real estate. 5. Strong knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch and RFP responses.
Teamwork and Applied Skills 1. High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness. 2. Excellent writing skills. Ability to focus written materials to ensure impact on general business, legal, and niche populations. 3. Strong business acumen; the ability to recognize marketing and business development opportunities and to pursue them strategically. 4. Excellent attention to detail skills in all areas, including writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data. 5. Strong presentation and communication skills. 6. Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrixed organization. 7. Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines. 8. Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data. 9. Talent for creating client satisfaction; demonstrated ability to focus on the client value in all work. 10. Flexibility and willingness to work hours needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. 11. Ability to travel as needed. 12. Ability to keep confidential any information, observations, or viewpoints regarding firm business matters.
