MasterCard has a need for a full time attorney to provide global legal support for the MasterCard Integrated Processing Solutions (IPS) business unit. IPS is MasterCardâs complete debit and prepaid processing platform. The selected attorney will be responsible for negotiating and drafting complex technology agreements, both with customers and vendors, helping to identify and protect intellectual property, providing legal risk assessment and analysis, assisting with resolution of any customer issues, reviewing collateral and marketing materials, addressing data privacy and other regulatory/compliance issues, and interfacing with executive level management.
The work requires substantial collaboration, which includes support for colleagues and other initiatives within our Global Products & Solutions and MasterCard Technologies organizations. This attorney will work cross-functionally across many regions, leveraging local region counsel, to support the expansion of IPS globally. The position will reside in the St. Louis, Missouri.
Major Accountabilities: Provide expert legal services and support for MasterCard's IPS platform. Specifically:
- Provide expert legal services to the MasterCard Integrated Processing Solutions business unit,
- Draft various legal documents, and negotiate complex technology agreements as well as customer and vendor agreements and associated service level arrangements,
- Plan and determine course of action regarding any potential lawsuits, mediation, and/or arbitration,
- Collaborate and/or lead the evaluation of federal, state and local laws and government regulations affecting the operation of the platform, globally, including any data privacy issues, in order to provide sound analysis and advice and help advance the business,
- Investigate and resolves compliance problems and respond to questions from internal sources and government regulatory agencies,
- Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts and counsel clients with respect to business initiatives,
- Facilitate the identification and adequate protection of intellectual property rights, and
- Review and approve payment constructs and associated product requirements, as well as sales and marketing materials, press releases and other internal and external communications.
- 4+ years of legal experience, including expertise in processing agreements and technology law preferred; in-house, banking or card payments experience a plus.
- In-house experience with a multinational corporation and experience working with colleagues and customers in multiple time zones and in a variety of cultures preferred.
- Must have strong project management, interpersonal, collaborative, contract drafting, and client communication skills.
- Must be flexible, solutions oriented and able to multi-task within tight timelines.
- Must be able to work on highly complex legal issues of significant strategic importance and financial impact to MasterCard.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must demonstrate effective leadership and negotiation skills.
