Our premier property and casualty insurance company client is looking for a legal administrative assistant in the St Louis area to support a small legal office for this large P&C company.

Familiar with personal injury
Litigation experience
Missouri & Illinois experience a must
Notary public plus
Paralegal training/certification plus

This position is unique to the House Counsel Program. The incumbent reports directly to the Supervising Attorney and serves as an administrative assistant to him/her. From time to time, assignmen! ts are also handled for other attorneys or other staff members! as well..
Because of the sensitive and confidential nature of the work the incumbent will perform and information the incumbent will have access to in working with and for the House Counsel Supervising Attorney, a high degree of confidentiality and discretion is absolutely essential for the incumbent.

Administrative duties include the following: word processing of long and short documents, including documents requiring precise formatting; filing of paper documents in legal files, ordering supplies, maintaining a diary system, arranging meetings and travel for the Supervising Attorney or other staff members, operating standard types of office equipment, including faxes, photocopiers, calculators and personal computers; answering the telephone and offering other assistance to the House Counsel program as requested.
The legal assistant aspects of this position are expected to involve the following: performing legal research including on the Internet, W! estlaw or Lexis-Nexis; drafting simple pleadings/discovery requests from available forms or samples; frequent telephone contact with other law firms, clerks and courts, insureds, witnesses, experts, court reporters regarding various types of scheduling; assist with witness preparation; assist with deposition summaries; assist with trial exhibits to include, if necessary, actual trial attendance and assistance with witnesses and exhibits; assistance with transportation of trial materials and exhibits to depositions, hearings, trials or other locations as needed.

Minimum Experience / Education:
Five or more years of office work experience, preferably of an administrative and legal nature; some college preferred; paralegal training a plus.

Communication and Collaboration Skills:
Written: must be able to compose both routine and non-routine correspondence, including letters, memos and reports involving both simple and moderately co! mplex material.
Oral: must be able to explain both simple and! moderately complex material to fellow employees and others, including insureds and witnesses regarding the status of the case with important dates and times, communications with the insured regarding responses to discovery, communications with medical, engineering or other experts and others involved in the litigation process.
In addition to demonstrated proficiency

In addition to demonstrated proficiency in clerical skills (typing, filing, effective use of telephone, etc.), this position requires a sound knowledge of office routines and an understanding of Company rules and procedures. Excellent communication and writing skills are needed in contact
with other office staff members, Branch and Corporate personnel, as well as with persons outside the Company, including insureds, claimants, witnesses, opposing counsel, their firms and staff, court reporters, judges, clerks, police departments and experts.

Technical knowledge/skills:
Abili! ty to prepare all forms of correspondence and varied documents on a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Windows, Outlook, Lotus or Excel, and other software, including any software that assists with legal filing, legal billing, or docketing of cases for hearing, pre-trial, trial, deposition or other critical dates routinely experienced in a busy trial practice.
Ability to understand instructions for, complete with appropriate direction, and timely file all legal pleadings with the various clerks at the courts in which we practice.
Ability to perform basic legal research, to include on the internet, Westlaw/Lexis-Nexis.
Ability to schedule depositions involving all necessary parties, co-ordinate multiple calendars, and arrange for adequate facilities/conference rooms for depositions and witness meetings; ability to prepare and assist with trial exhibits. Ability to receive, review and assess routine office billings for utilities, supplies, postage! , water, and to properly transmit them to Corporate Claims Legal for pa! yment.
