Position available in St. Louis office for a full time paralegal in the Intellectual Pro! perty practice area. Qualified applicants will possess a minimum of 1 year of intellectual property experience. Trademark experience is required and patent experience is preferred. Qualified applicants will possess an undergraduate degree or paralegal certificate. The person selected for this position must be able to work closely with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Researches and compiles information pertaining to national and international intellectual property rights including searches of Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) records, industry databases and general legal research.
- Prepares status summary reports for attorneys and clients.
- Coordinates international filings with foreign law offices and/or other foreign entities.
- Maintains docket system of due dates for actions including responses, renewals, oppositions, Section 8 and 15 affidavits, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) requi! rements and payment of patent annuities in foreign countries.
- Monitors filing deadlines.
- Prepares correspondence to clients, opposing parties, prepares specifications, renewals, filings and pleadings in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
- Upon allowance of U.S. patent and trademark applications, reviews file and verifies that all required documents have been filed and accurately entered by the Patent and Trademark Office.
- Reviews and takes action on correspondence received from foreign associates.
- Communicates with clients on actions due in connection with the maintenance of foreign trademark registrations and/or issued patents, and requests instructions regarding the same.
- Prepares formal drawings and IDS for filing.
- Prepares and files various PCT related documents with the Patent Office.
- Prepares cost estimates to enter the national phase in various countries, if requested by client.
- Prepares and files applications, statements of use, affidavits of us! e, renewal applications, and assignments.
- Obtains legalizations and certifications for filing foreign trademarks.
- Informs client of the progress of the examination of their foreign patent and/or trademark applications.

- Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
- Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
- Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skil! ls.
- Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense underst! anding to situations encountered.
- Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.

- remain in a stationary position the majority of the work day;
- be able to move about inside the office to access various items;
