POSITION OVERVIEW
Researches legal principles and precedents, gathers relevant case-related information and drafts and executes legal documents. Analyzes proposed and established regulations, prepares legal documents, and reviews company policies. Advises management on legal matters a! nd ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Provides work guidance to paraprofessional and support staff in developing solutions to problems presented.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
·Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates a dedicated legal staff comprised of attorneys, paralegals, and administrative personnel
·Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for corporation
·Prepares and presents compliance and legal briefing to management
·Represents corporation in legal and regulatory proceedings
·Researches and drafts administrative and legislative proposals, regulations and reports
·Evaluates existing policies, procedures and applicable training for the company
·Fields and answers questions from business units concerning legal topics related to assigned area
·Meets with business clients and third-parties
·Negotiates and drafts business agreements
·Coordinates and manages outsid! e counsel
·Keeps informed of industry-specific regulatio! ns and ensures that appropriate risk management strategies are in place
·Works with senior in-house attorneys to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years experience of telecom-specific legal work, including:
·Negotiating and arbitrating interconnection agreements from a competitor’s perspective
·Negotiating telecom service agreements, e.g., long distance, signaling, operator services, directory assistance and circuit agreements
·Negotiating with telecom carriers to resolve intercarrier compensation and operational disputes
·Tariff / Service Guide review and drafting
·Arbitrating and/or litigating approved interconnection agreements and other intercarrier disputes
·Strong familiarity with federal and state telecom regulations (1996 to present)
·Strong drafting/editing skills, e.g., memos, briefs, and testimony
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES & LICENSE! S
·Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
·Admission to state bar in state which Attorney practices
