Department Purpose
Provide effective customer service to policyholders and claimants by resolving cases fairly, expeditiously and economically.
Deliver customized claims management solutions to our product underwriting partners.
Manage internal and external claim costs effectively and proactively.
Position Purpose
Responsible for managing claims. Investigate, analyze, and review new and reassigned claims for coverage, liability, damages, and reserves. Manage surveyors, investigators, adjusters, attorneys, and experts as needed. Maintain claim files and ensure claims have full coverage, are properly documented, adjusted, and paid. Duties may in! clude supervision and training of Claim Examiners, Associates,! and/or Technicians. May testify in court and manage high value claim investigations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)
1. Review new Protection & Indemnity and Commercial General Liability claims and decide on the best course of action to investigate and/or defend and resolve the claim.
2. Make initial contacts to acquire essential information.
3. Assign and manage surveyors, outside adjustors, attorneys and experts where appropriate.
4. Analyze and assess coverage issues under the policy and issue appropriate coverage letters/documentation.
5. Complete timely investigation of claim and post appropriate reserve.
6. Review and analyze results of claim investigation and update evaluation/plan of action.
7. Handle Protection & Indemnity claims and Commercial General Liability claims and maintain files in accordance with company and industry Best Practices.
8. Resolve cl! aim in timely manner, including direct negotiation with claimant or counsel.
9. Complete required internal and external reports and updates throughout pendency of claim.

Required Experience
Typically requires a bachelorâs degree in business administration, insurance, or a related field and 5-8 years of experience in a similar field or position.! Prefer 1-5 years experience in marine claims handling. In lieu of clai! m handling experience, the following equivalent experience is preferred: Superior background in communication, negotiations and analytical skills. CPCU or similar coursework.
