Founded! in 2012, Arch Grants seeks to foster an entrepreneurial culture and provide the infrastructure and resources necessary to build successful companies in St. Louis, Missouri. Through our well-known international business-plan competition, Arch Grants awards its annual winners with a wealth of resources in return for headquartering their ventures in St. Louis. Impressive resources include one year of non-dilutive capital funding, discounted commercial rent, free legal, accounting, marketing, cloud computing and business mentoring support, as well as unique access to St. Louisâ angel investment network, and an opportunity for a second-round grant.
Partnering with our corporate sponsors, generous individual donors and comparable economic development endeavors that support business growth in St. Louis, Arch Grants aims to establish St. Louis as an innovation hub by creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Since its inception, Arch Grants has raised $3.3 million! and received international media attention for its efforts to! attract and retain entrepreneurs to St. Louis. In 2013, Arch Grants awarded an impressive $1 million in grant funding along with pro bono professional services to 20 individual start-up businesses. Officially registered as the Entrepreneurial Startup Business Development Corporation, Arch Grants is a Missouri not-for-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status. Arch Grantsâ Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic Executive Director who will rise to the challenge of spurring even more local economic growth and to lead the organization towards fulfilling its mission at the highest level of excellence. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee the following areas of responsibility:
- ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP â" Partner with the Board of Directors to provide effective executive leadership and strategic direction for Arch Grants. Work closely with the Boa! rd to attract entrepreneurial talent to its business-plan competition, to obtain competition sponsors with impressive funding levels and to facilitate the best and brightest pro bono professional services and ongoing support for competition winners. Keep Board Members fully informed and all leadership efforts aligned with the mission of Arch Grants.
- BUSINESS-PLAN COMPETITION MANAGEMENT â" Oversee and direct all aspects of Arch Grantsâ annual international business-plan competition from grant application to final judging and award process. Aggressively network within entrepreneurial âecosystemsâ and enterprises locally, nationally and internationally to recruit best applicants and obtain the highest quality of competition judges, mentors and other professional volunteers. Organize and direct the competitionâs judging criteria, judging process and award announcements. Direct all activities for âFinalist Weekendâ including competition details, receptions,! special lunches, transportation, and all related event planning and lo! dging for participants. Oversee and direct all communications with applicants, judges, sponsors, donors, volunteers and granteesâ during and after competition.
- FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT : Provide effective operational oversight to guide Arch Grants through its annual cycle of fundraising, application and judging process, competition finale, annual Gala, and provision of ongoing support services for grant recipients. Prudently manage the organizationâs financial resources and overall budget. Track grantee performance and associated metrics. Facilitate quarterly meetings with grantees and provide superior ongoing support for award recipients. Provide effective management and oversight for Arch Grantsâ administrative team in all related duties.
- DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDRAISING: Manage the organizationâs development in partnership with Arch Grantsâ Board through active cultivation of corporate sponsors, major donors, and fundraising events. Wor! k closely with Board to identify potential funding sources and report necessary financial information to applicable government agencies. Direct all communications with donors and sponsors to ensure detailed and timely communication. Manage Arch Grantsâ annual Gala and coordinate all related invitations, advertising, honorees, and event planning details.
- COMMUNITY AND MEDIA RELATIONS: Serve as Arch Grantsâ face to the community, consistently and positively presenting the organization and its mission to all stakeholders. Develop, enhance, and maintain productive relationships with all community constituents, policymakers and media sources. Write organizationâs newsletter, web content and online blog.
Requirements
Qualified cand! idates must meet the following criteria:
Must have a strong pas! sion for building a robust entrepreneurial culture and developing successful businesses in St. Louis.
- Must demonstrate ability to assist Board with a long-term vision with the goal of generating superior growth for the organization.
- Preferred experience with or in a start-up entity and early stage business funding.
- Experience in a business leadership role.
- Financial acumen with the ability to analyze financial documents.
- Exposure to and experience with fund development, including knowledge of and or success in obtaining corporate and individual gifts and corporate and foundation grants.
- Superior planning and organizational skills coupled with excellent attention to detail.
- Written and oral communication skills of a high order.
- Must be a creative thinker with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of organization.
- Demonstrated ability to make presentations to a variety of groups inc! luding potential foundation donors, companies, entrepreneurs, and media.
- Solid computer skills and a willingness to grasp and implement new technology.
- Four-year bachelorâs degree is required.
